Here at AWBDP our professional and friendly dental hygienists will provide treatment to help clean your teeth and your gums.

Regular visits to a hygienist are encouraged as it is crucial to help reducing the occurrence of gum disease . The mouth gateway to the body and a healthy mouth goes a long way in preventing certain diseases. Our dental hygienists not only screen for dental diseases but also oral cancer.

What will happen at a hygienist appointment?

Our professional and friendly dental hygienists first perform a thorough examination of the gums , clean your teeth to remove the build-up of plaque and tartar. They then polish your teeth to allow stain removal. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, they’ll offer advice on how to properly care for your teeth at home.

This could include cleaning techniques, brush recommendations, interdental aids and the ones specifically needed by you ,diet recommendations to help reduce the occurrence of tooth decay and gum disease and offer smoking cessation advice. All treatment and advice will be based on your individual need.

How often should I visit the dental hygienist?

We recommend hygienist visit once every three months, six months, annually, or every 18 months. The frequency of your visits is, of course dependent on your own unique clinical needs and varies from patient to patient.

Here at AWDBP we also use Air-Polisher , which makes a visit to the hygienist much more enjoyable.

What is Air-Polisher and how does it work?

Air-Polisher is a professional stain removal system that tackles stubborn stains, which are difficult to remove with normal teeth whitening methods. It works by using a combination of water, compressed air and fine powder particles ,combined in a high-powered jet which gently removes stains from your teeth including hard to reach areas. It removes stains from tobacco, food and drink, leaving your mouth noticeably sparkling and healthy.

Can Air-Polisher be used to treat gum disease?

This is one of the major benefits of Air-polisher. Biofilm is a sticky film of harmful bacteria which builds on the teeth surfaces and gum. The bacteria feeds on the food you eat, especially sugar, which turns biofilm to acid, causing tooth decay and gum disease. It grows everyday and is colourless. The bacterias present are linked to serious diseases like heart disease, Alzeihmer’s, Parkinsons and so on.

The cleaning action removes the sticky sheet of bacteria, thus helping to treat gum disease and keep gums and teeth healthy. Where there are deep pockets around the teeth as a result of gum disease, the special Perioflow nozzle is able to flex and adapt to clean even awkward spaces under the gum line.

What are the main benefits of Air-Polisher?

  • Pain-Free: Treatment with Air polisher  gives you a pain-free experience, reducing the apprehension often associated with dental visits.
  • Sensitive teeth: Air polisher warms up the water and the vibrations are regulated, eliminating any sensitivity you may have experienced in the past during hygienist visit.
  • Efficient Plaque Removal:Treatment with Air Polisher  rapidly and effectively eliminates heavy plaque build-up. This method outperforms the capabilities of traditional scaling and polishing.
  • Stain Removal:Air Polisher very efficiently also removes all  stubborn stains, be it  from smoking, food, drinks, leaving a  healthy , aesthetically pleasing and smooth tooth surface behind. This further helps if you are going for whitening treatment.
  • Reaches Deep Pockets:Air Polisher has special tips to penetrate deep into periodontal pockets, eliminating harmful bacteria which  has oral and wider health implications.
  • Safe for Restorations:Air Polisher is completely safe for veneers, crowns, bridges, and implants.

Can Air Polisher be used on implants:-.

Yes! Air Polisher can be safely used on implant surfaces. The powder used with Air-Polisher is very gentle and has no risk of scratching or scuffing. It is a great way of keeping implants, and the gums supporting them, clean and healthy

Can Air  Polisher be used if someone is undergoing orthodontic treatment:-

It is often very difficult to clean and maintain oral hygiene when undergoing orthodontic treatment. Fixed orthodontic appliances use brackets and bands which leads to collection  of plaque very easily. As a result, poor cleaning leads to a higher risk of caries. The innovative spray technology can access all those hard to reach areas.

Air Polisher is very  effective for orthodontic cleaning as it can reach into all those nooks and hard reach areas around delicate appliances, removing any staining and plaque build up and thus reducing the risk of tooth decay during orthodontic treatment.
