Here at AWBDP we offer crowns as a part of our treatment option as and when required by our patients.
A crown is a full coronal cover for a tooth and are attached directly to the remaining natural tooth tissue. They can be made from a variety of tooth coloured materials such as porcelain, resin, or ceramic. Metallic crowns and a combination of metal and porcelain are also used. It is mainly used in significantly damaged teeth where conventional treatment fillings won’t work or on a heavily restored tooth. They are also used after a root canal treatment to protect the tooth from breakage, or to cover a severely discoloured tooth.
The Treatment
You and your dentist will discuss the treatment options available to you, including the type of crown you would like.
Your natural tooth will be prepared for the crown under local anaesthesia and impressions will be taken, which are then sent to the laboratory where the crown will be made as per the instructions sent by your dentist. In the meantime your dentist will cover the prepared tooth with a temporary crown so that you are comfortable. In the following appointment, once the crown is ready, it will be cemented onto the prepared tooth.
